The time will come when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you strangle today."

-May day Martyrs

BSNLEU wishes revolutionary greetings on

May Day

May Day martyrs – Albert Parsons, Adolf Fischer, August Spies and George Engel – sacrificed their lives in the fight against capitalist exploitation. Today, the liberalization policies being pursued by the Indian govt. seek to increase this exploitation manifold. On this day, let us resolve to unite the entire working masses of the country to put an end to this exploitation.

[30.04.09] BSNL has issued order for IDA increase of 0.5%, from 46.8% to 47.3% w.e.f. 01.04.2009. BSNL Lr.no.14-1/2007-PAT(BSNL) dated 29.04.2009.

[30.04.09] How Management can refuse new HRA <>

[30.04.09] What is our demand on Interim Relief ?

Interim Relief is usually granted when the due wage revision is delayed. For Central Public Sector employees, wage revision is due w.e.f. 01-01-2007. Already, more than 27 months have elapsed. Management should have offered IR when there has been such long delay. Most of the other PSUs have granted either interim relief or pay advance much earlier. Even after BSNLEU/United Forum of BSNL Unions demanded interim relief, the management did not take any decision. The demand of the UF is that Interim Relief of 50% of pay or Rs. 3000/- whichever is more be paid. If it is pay advance, Rs. 50,000/- to Rs.80,000/- be paid. This is similar to what is paid in the other PSUs.

The management first offered two months basic pay as advance. This will come to Rs.8,000/- at the lowest level. After much discussion in the meeting on 29-04-09, CMD offered 4 months basic pay ie. Rs. 16,000/- at the lowest level. We could not accept such very meagre advance. The workers are eligible for increase for the last 27 months since 01-01-07.Even if an advance of Rs. 1000/- p.m. is calculated, then it will come to Rs. 27,000/.It is pertinent to note here that in the conversion from CDA to IDA in 2000, all officials got more than Rs.1500/- p.m. But the management is not prepared to see reason and comparison with other PSUs and concede our demands.

United Forum is not adamant that whatever it demanded should be fully accepted. But there is always a bench mark below which it is impossible to agree.

When even the lowest executive is being paid Rs. one lakh as arrears (40% already paid and 60% being paid in 2008-09), leave alone the top executives who are being paid arrears of about 6 lakhs or so, why the non-executives can not be paid even half of it? Can we accept such meagre offer? Certainly not.

Let us seriously prepare for the two days strike on 19-20th May 2009. Meet each and every worker and explain our demands and the management's negative response.

Kolkata : "As long as our arch rival BSP chief Mayawati is with the Left parties or the Third Front, we are not going for any post-poll alliance them," SP general secretary Amar Singh told reporters in Kolkata.Ruling out any post-poll tie-up with the Third Front or the Left parties as long as the BSP is with them, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday said it was, however, not averse to an alliance with the Congress."The Congress-led UPA ran the government for the last one year with our help after the Left parties withdrew support (on the signing of the civil nuclear deal) but they turned down our offer of 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh. We had never been so ungrateful, however, we are not averse to a tie-up with the Congress in post-poll scenario if the situation demand," Singh said.Launching a scathing attack against the CPI(M) leadership, Singh said, "We had good relation with the CPI(M) during the time of Harkishen Singh Surjeet, but Prakash Karat is altogether a different person."On the question of prime ministership, he said, "The emerging situation will decide who will be the prime minister. Let the Congress first win the confidence of magic number."PTI , April 26UPA not hanging Afzal to gain votes : AdvaniAhmedabad : BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani on Sunday raked up the issue of Afzal Guru and said that the UPA government was delaying his execution thinking they will get votes by doing so.“They (the UPA) are saying that there were terrorist attacks like the one on Parliament and Akshardham when I was Home Minister, I say yes I accept it. But see what we have done in the case. We caught the conspirators, prosecuted them and convicted them,” Advani said, addressing an election rally in New Vadaj area of the city.“One of the main accused was given death sentence. He appealed in higher courts but it was rejected. Still he has not been hanged. If he (Afzal) were Anand Singh or Anand Mohan then he would have been hanged by now. I would like to ask Manmohan Singh is it just because he is Afzal Guru he is not being hanged?” Advani asked.“I have talked to my Muslim brothers; they too are not for this decision. They say that government was taking their name and doing wrong things, we are not saying don't punish the terrorists,” he said.He said, “If the UPA government is thinking that by delaying execution of Afzal Guru they will get votes, then they are wrong... India's Muslims are saying that by doing this the government was defaming their community.”Press Trust Of India, April 27 Know me not as a Gandhi, says Varun GandhiKhaga, Uttar Pradesh : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi on Sunday said he did not want to be known by his Gandhi name but for his work.Addressing his first political rally after his release on parole, Varun Gandhi said: "People ask me how it feels to be from the Gandhi family, but I swear that I don't want to be known by my name but for my work."Targeting the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh, he urged voters to go beyond caste-based politics, saying: "This is an important time for Uttar Pradesh as it is a test for voters to decide if they will go beyond their caste bonds or instead embrace national patriotic values."Varun Gandhi, who was campaigning for BJP candidate Radhey Shyam Gupta in Fatehpur district, shared anecdotes from his days in Etah jail, charging up the roaring crowd further."I was kept in isolation in jail," he said, adding that a peepal tree was his "companion"."One of the reasons I am here in Fatehpur is because when I was in jail, a jail attendant - I think his name was Suresh Kumar, told me to come here to campaign. When I asked why, he told me that he doesn't have faith in parties but he believes in people," Varun Gandhi shared."This is not Varun's fight alone - this is a fight to make our country strong, for a national vision focusing on farmers and the poor," he added.Varun Gandhi was jailed and charged under the stringent National Security Act for his reported hate speeches targeting Muslims. He was released on April 16 on a two-week parole after spending nearly 20 days in jail.IBN Live, April 26Varun has tarnished Gandhi surname : Singhvi - Singhvi Saab , he meant Indira Gandhi Pariwar, not Mahatama Gandhi !!! New Delhi : Speaking in reaction to a statement by BJP leader Varun Gandhi, who on Sunday said that he should be known by his work rather than his Gandhi tag, Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Varun has tarnished the Gandhi surname.“It stands in stark contrast to the actions, words and thought process of the real Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand, who would turn over in his grave if he heard Varun Gandhi comparing himself to the great Mahatma,” Singhvi said.“Varun should try to at least reform himself from now on instead of making self-serving and false statements. He should start doing some real Gandhigiri. His speech in Pilibhit is the exact opposite of Gandhigiri,” he added.IBN Live, April 26Narendra Modi must apologise to PM : Cong - This is taking Modi Phobia too Far !!!New Delhi: The Congress demanded an apology from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after a man flung a shoe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during an election rally in Ahmedabad on Sunday."It is absolutely shocking... Modi has to apologise for what has been done to the PM. It is an insult to democracy," said Congress spokesperson M Veerappa Moily.Moily said such incidents are the manifestation of "hate politics" promoted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat."The manner in which hate politics is being initiated by the BJP is reflected in this way. People of Gujarat are excellent but Modi has nurtured such kind of hate politics... parties should resolve to shun hate politics," he said.Asked if the BJP was behind the incident, Moily said: "It has to investigated."Targeting the law and order situation in Gujarat, Moily said: "It (such incidents) reflects the kind of bad governance and law and order situation in the state."IBN Live, April 26Sholay script for Jaswant and Gorkhaland : Hema MaliniDarjeeling, April 26: Bollywood’s dream girl today revised the famous “chal dhanno” dialogue of Sholay fame to be in harmony with the demand for Gorkhaland.“Chal Dhanno! Aaj teri Basanti ki izzat ka sawal hai, aaj Jaswant Singh ko jitana hai aur Gorkhaland banana hai,” said Hema Malini, as the 7,000-strong crowd broke into applause at the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha meeting at Darjeeling Motor Stand today. The actress remembered for her role as Basanti, the tangewali who talked nineteen to the dozens, was quick to link the Sholay script to Gorkhaland and Jaswant Singh. She had driven up from Siliguri with Singh, the BJP candidate for the Darjeeling seat.Perhaps few missed Morcha chief Bimal Gurung at the meeting. He had to leave for Jaigaon in the Jalpaiguri district on the Bhutan border to attend another rally. The Morcha had hired a helicopter to take Singh and Hema to Jaigaon but because of delays in obtaining necessary permission from the army, the chopper could not land at the Lebong helipad.“I had last come to Darjeeling to shoot for Joshila (1973) with Dev Anandsahab. Today, wherever I went, I was received with garlands and shawls and one single message ‘We want Gorkhaland’. I pray our wishes are fulfilled and will come back to shoot again in Gorkhaland,” Hema told the cheering crowd.Singh, who had spoken before Hema, struck a chord with the gathering by chanting the famous war cry of the Gorkhas: “Jai jai Kali Mahakali, aeyo aeyo Gorkhali” and added: “I also want Gorkhaland.” Lambasting the Congress, Singh said: “Manmohan Singhji during his recent visit to Guwahati said he would get the economy right within 100 days of coming to power. What was he doing for the last 100 days? Was he sleeping?”Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the BJP spokesperson, said many in the plains were scared to vote against the Left. “When you (Gorkhas) have provided security to the country I am sure you can protect them in the plains. I know you can even shed blood to provide them with the security.”Quote of the day "Do not touch my feet.
